Eight Activities to do in Bath during Christmas Break

This Christmas, Bath is lit up like the night sky, with swathes of sparkling lights around almost every building or railing and Christmas trees that tower into the darkness. As expected the city has put on quite the show and presented us with plenty of activities to give laughter and joy during the season.

1. Peruse the Christmas Sales!

Just after the most wonderful time of the year, Bath is brimming with sales. You can stock up for next year purchase presents in advance and maybe even pick up a few bargains just for you.

I’d recommend Anthropologie for beautiful mugs, Tea Emporium for your warm winter drinks and John Lewis for next years baubles!

2. Follow Bath’s Christmas Light Trail

More than ever before Bath has been lit up for the Christmas season, with a trail of light including Bath’s most handsome buildings banded in colour, two wonderful nordic fir trees and each street with its own Christmas theme. Walcot Street has been adorned with over 25 glittering mirror balls, while Milsom Street boasts rainbow illuminations and stars, Southgate has been encased in swathes of fairy lights. Bath will remain illuminated until the end of the year.

3. Visit Bath Abbey’s Museum of the Moon

Bath Abbey has been reopened after months of renovation with quite the new exhibition, an entire planet has been brought inside its walls. Luke Jerram’s fantastical touring exhibition, Museum of the Moon, will be on display in the Abbey until the 24th of December. No tickets are needed!

4. Wander the Enchanted Garden of Light

Inside Europe’s only American museum, you and your family can walk within tunnels of light, past glittering reindeer, all with cups of warmed mulled wine or hot chocolate in hand. The garden will be fully illuminated until the 31st of December.

5. Glide around the ice at Victoria Park

Bath’s ice rink has returned to bring hours of fun to us all. Open until January 3rd, the family can glide around the ice rink until their peckish and then head to the warmth of the Moguls Alpine Bar for wood-fired pizzas, gourmet hot dogs, loaded fries and scrumptious churros.

The carousel in Bath, like Christmas, comes but once a year so when I hear its music and see the lights swirling around it always brings me back to many magical Christmas’s riding the carousel with my younger sister.

7. Play glow in the dark Mini Golf at Victoria park

Putt into the night with glow in the dark golf balls and illuminated surroundings at Glow Golf, right next door to Bath on Ice. When you’re all tuckered out you can head into the Moguls Alpine Bar for food and drink. Open until the 3rd of January.

8. Watch the Pantomime at the Theatre Royal

A staple of the season for the little ones has always been the jovial retelling of an age-old fairy tale we British call the Panto. This years story is Cinderella with plenty of hilarious characters to fill the hours and a script written and played out by the great Jon Monie. On until the 9th of January.
